Isola Bella

When looking at isola Bella from Stresa centre, visitors are impressed by the amazing shape

of its gardens, built on different levels. The huge and historic Borromeo palace is not visible from the beautiful Stresa lakefront promenade, unless we enjoy the lovely walk as far as Lido of Carciano where the cable car station is. Approaching isola Bella, we discover the princely palace which lies on the opposite side of the island as well as the picturesque village built all around the Borromeo's properties.

Isola Madre

Isola Madre is a lovely discovery.

Less famous than its neighbour isola Bella, this privately-owned island offers a wide English-style garden where visitors can discover a lot of exotic plants and flowers.

A very old villa lies on this peaceful island and is open to the public as a sort of museum. The villa is interesting as it is completely different from the opulent isola Bella's palace. Murano glass chandeliers, portraits, pieces of furiniture and a nice collection of puppets. Worth a visit!

Isola Pescatori - Fishermen's island

This is the only island that has never belonged to the Borromeo family. Although it is a place where many travellers come, especially to enjoy a meal in one of the many restaurants and venues, on Fishermen's island we can still breathe the atmosphere of a traditional fishing village, especially when we are lucky enough to visit it in the low season or at a quiet time. It's a picturesque island still preserving the old houses that belonged to fishermen and today also some little shops.
